Springfield, Mass. -- January 22, 2010 -- Springfield College and Head Wrestling Coach Daryl Arroyo will host the annual New England Wrestling Association Dual Meet Championship Sunday (Jan. 24) at SC's Field House beginning at 10 am. A total of 15 NEWA teams will vie for the team title.
The following schools will compete, by order of seeding: 1) Williams College, 2) Johnson & Wales University, 3) Wesleyan University, 4) Rhode Island College, 5) Springfield College, 6) Roger Williams University, 7) University of Southen Maine, 8) Bridgewater State College, 9) Norwich University, 10) Plymouth State University, 11) Western New England College, 12) Trinity College, 13) Coast Guard Academy, 14) WPI, 15) MIT.
As the No. 1 seed, Williams will receive a bye. The remaining 14 schools will pair off as such in first-round action:
2-JWU vs. 15-MIT
3-Wesleyan vs. 14-WPI
4-RIC vs. 13-Coast Guard
5-Springfield vs. 12-Trinity
7-Southern Maine vs. 10-Plymouth State
8-Bridgewater State vs. 9-Norwich
Five of the schools are currently nationally ranked. They are: No. 18 Williams, No. 19 JWU, No. 24 Wesleyan, No. 27 RIC, and No. 28 Springfield. Six individuals are currently nationally ranked. They are: Michael Bastante of JWU (7th/125 lbs.); John Marsh of Bridgewater State (6th/149 lbs.); Carl Britenstein of Williams (8th/157 lbs.); Michael Morin of Southern Maine (3rd/165 lbs.); Brennan Ward of JWU (8th/184 lbs.); and Ryan Malo of Williams (2nd/197 lbs.).
