SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 20, 2004 – Springfield College junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass) won both the one- and three-meter diving events for the fourth-consecutive meet to lead the Pride to a 174-122 victory over Middlebury at Linkletter Natatorium.
Shaw posted national qualifying scores of 291.30 in the one-meter dive and 315.00 on the three-meter board. Senior captain
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I .) swam to victory in the 200 butterfly (1:58.65), 100 free (49.13) and 500 free (4:53.67). Arruda was also a part of the Pride’s winning 400-medley relay team along with freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda), sophomore
Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.) and senior captain
Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.). Burch and Doornweerd were also a part of SC’s winning 200-free relay team, along with sophomores
Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.) and
Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.). Burch also posted first-place finishes in the 50 free (21.80) and 200 back (2:01.98).
Other first-place finishers for SC included captain
Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Pa.) in the 400 individual medley (4:23.65) and junior
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 200 free (1:47.72).
On the women’s side, the Pride fell to Middlebury 184-116. SC Freshman
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.) won the three-meter diving competition for the fourth-consecutive meet with a score of 245.85. Allen also scored 230.54 points to place second in the one-meter diving.

Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) won the 200 back (2:15.27) and the 500 free (5:12.77). Senior
Victoria Dennis (Willington, Conn.) came out victorious in the 100 back (1:04.18).

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
