Earning the First Team selection were seniors Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) and Jill Urtz (Verona, N.Y.), while senior Katherine McCarthy (Conway, Mass.), junior Morgan Rein (Mystic, Conn.), and sophomore Meg Bradley (Cumberland, R.I.) garnered Second Team honors.
Kelleher, the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, helped lead the Pride to the 2008 NEWMAC Championship, the program’s fifth in as many years. In the 2008 campaign, Kelleher tallied a team-best 17 goals and led Springfield with 36 points. She has netted six game-winning goals this season. For her career, Kelleher posted 145 points and 63 goals.
Urtz, who served as co-captain with Kelleher, was a dominant presence in the backline for the Pride, and a large part as to why Springfield held a 1.29 goal against average in the regular season.
Fellow defender, McCarthy, was an anchor in the middle of the backline helping shutdown opponents’ chances, as the Pride allowed only 31 goals in 23 games.
A talented midfielder, Rein had a breakout year for the Pride as she started all 23 games for head coach Melissa Rogers. Rein finished with nine points as she recorded three goals and three assists this season. All three of her goals proved to be game-winners.
Bradley was a force all over the field this past season as she was strong on the defensive end, but readily able to dish out assists in the offensive third. She finished with 16 points off of eight assists and four goals.
