



Babson Park, Mass. - October 10, 2011 - For the third time this season, senior Lauren Torvi was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week after guiding the Pride to five victories last week.The North Smithfield, R.I. product had another dominating stretch of play as the Pride improved to 21-0 this season. Torvi was named to the All-Tournament Team as Springfield was able to win the Tom Hay Invitational over the weekend.
In 17 sets played, Torvi totaled 83 kills while hitting .401, averaging an impressive 4.88 kills per set. She also added 16 blocks, averaging just under one per game. Torvi had her way out of the middle as she started the week off with 12 kills at Smith before pounding out 22 kills at a .457 clip in a five-game win against Plymouth State. She tacked on 18 kills in a sweep of New Paltz before rounding out the weekend with 18 kills against Westfield State and 13 kills vs. Stevens.

Moira Long will enter her third season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2013. Long wasted little time putting her stamp on the program, taking the Pride to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight in 2011.
