Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Amherst

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 5, 2005- Springfield College junior
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) led the Pride to a 129-114 victory over the Lord Jeff’s of Amherst today at Linkletter Natatorium.
Moran swam to victory in the 500 free (4:49.78) and the 1,000 free (10:01.93) while Burch won the 50 free (21.41) and the 100 free (46.77). Burch also teamed up with seniors
Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Penn.),
Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.) and sophomore
Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.) to win the 400 free relay in 3:13.31.
Junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) was victorious in the one- and three-meter diving events for the Pride. Shaw’s scores were 295.95 on the one-meter and 276.98 on the three-meter.
On the women’s side freshman
Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) was triumphant in two events for Springfield College, but the Pride fell to Amherst 138-97.
Sheahan won the 100 breast in 1:14.72 and the 1,000 free in 10:47.19. The 400 free relay team of freshman
Kelley Ockerbloom (Hyannisport, Mass.), sophomore
Meaghan O’Hara (Bedford, N.H.), and juniors
Alicia Hart (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Emily Phillips (North Windham, Conn.) swam to victory in 3:46.95.
SC freshman
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass) and graduate student
Andrea Babcock (Wayland, Mass.) took first (245.70) and second (233.85), respectively, in the three-meter diving competition.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Women's and Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
