SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 1, 2007 – In her final collegiate game, Springfield College senior attack Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) totaled a career-high nine points on five goals and a career-best four assists in the Pride’s 18-8 victory over cross-town rival Western New England College (WNEC) this evening at Benedum Field. SC ends its 2007 campaign with a 10-8 overall record.
Pride junior attack Alaina Schnitzer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) equaled Martell’s game-high of five goals in the season-ending win. Senior attack Kerrigan Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore attack Erin Doolan (Blauvelt, N.Y.) each contributed with two goals, as Doolan added an assist.
The Golden Bears of WNEC fall to 13-5 overall on the season with the loss. Up next for Western New England College is the championship game of the NEWLA Tournament on Saturday (May 5) against second-seeded Worcester State. The top-ranked Golden Bears will host Worcester State on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. start.
WNEC was led by sophomore midfielder Lindsey Fenton with four goals. Junior midfielder Kayte Devine added two scores, and senior attack Audrey Kelton chipped in with two assists. For the season, Kelton has now racked up impressive numbers of 42 goals and 63 assists for 105 total points of offense.
Senior attack Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.), freshman midfielder Alexandra Bazzano (Newington, Conn.), junior midfielder Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, Conn.), and sophomore attack Monica DiNardo (Easton, Conn.) all recorded goals in tonight’s victory to help pace SC. Lampros, and seniors Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) and Lisa Thomas (Whitman, Mass.) each contributed with assists on the night.
