Western Connecticut Edges Men's Soccer, 1-0

DANBURY, Conn., October 25, 2006 - Springfield College junior goalkeeper Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, Del) made six saves, but Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) defeated the Pride in a very close 1-0 match on Wednesday evening in non-league play.

The Colonials scored with two seconds left in the first half on a goal by Bradley Fidler, which was assisted by Keith Simone. Fidler chipped the ball over Driscoll to score the lone goal of the contest at the 44:58 mark.

With this loss, the men’s soccer team falls to a 5-11-2 record overall, while remaining 2-4 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The match was the Pride’s seventh one-goal loss of the season. Springfield took 16 shots (six on goal), but once again could not find the back of the net.

Freshman forward Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) led the Pride with four shots, three of which were on goal. Schippers has become SC’s biggest offensive threat, as he leads the team in points with 18 (seven goals, four assists).

Springfield College will play its next match on the road on Wednesday, November 1st, in the first round of the 2006 NEWMAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The opponenet and time of the match will be announced on Saturday, October 28th.
