No. 23 Western New England Edges Men's Soccer, 1-0

Brett Bascom Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - Sept. 2, 2012 - The Springfield College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to cross-town rival Western New England on Saturday afternoon in the Western New England Soccer City Shootout.

The win boosts WNE's record to 1-1 on the season, while the Pride fall to 0-2 after a pair of 1-0 losses.

The Golden Bears scored the game's only goal, despite some solid goaltending by Brett Bascom. After Western New England's Jake Bartnik awarded a penalty kick, Bascom dove to his right to save the initial bid. However, the rebound squirted back to Bartnick, who poked home the goal from inside the six-yard box.

Springfield finished the game with an 11-9 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Bascom ended the game with two saves.

The Pride will return to action on Wednesday evening in its home opener when it hosts Keene State at 7:00 pm.
