



Springfield, Mass. -- April 23, 2012 -- The Springfield College softball team, winners of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference 2012 regular season, will serve as the #1 seed and lead host for the NEWMAC post-season tournament which begins Tuesday, April 24, and is scheduled to end on Saturday, May 5, barring rainouts.The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is the two-time tournament defending champion (2010 and 2011). Springfield College won the tourney in 2008 and 2009. Wellesley captured the title in 2007.
There are actually two sites where the 2012 tournament will begin on Tuesday, April 24 -- at Springfield College and at Babson College. Day One pairings will be as follows:
Game #1 -- #5 Wheaton vs. #4 WPI -- 2:30 pm at Springfield College
Game #2 -- #6 Coast Guard vs. #3 Wellesley -- 2:30 pm at Babson College
Game #3 -- Winner Game #1 at #1 Springfield -- 4:30 pm
Game #4 -- Winner Game #2 at Babson -- 4:30 pm
The tournament then moves on to Saturday, April 28 at Springfield College.
Game #5 -- Winner Game #3 vs. Winner Game #4 -- 10:00 am
Game #6 -- Loser Game #1 vs. Loser Game #4 -- 12:00 pm
Game #7 -- Loser Game #2 vs. Loser Game #3 -- 2:00 pm
Game #8 -- Winner Game #6 vs. Winner Game #7 -- 4:00 pm
The tournament will then take a week off and will continue on Saturday, May 5 at the highest remaining seed.
