Burch Competes at the 2009 FINA World Championships
Springfield, Mass. - August 3, 2009
- Springfield College alum Roy Burch
recently represented the country of Bermuda as he swam in the 2009 FINA World Championships held in Rome, Italy over the last week.
The former Springfield standout, who also swam last year at the Olympics in Beijing, competed in three events during this year's World Swimming Championships.
While in Rome, Burch swam in three races. He touched in 23.10 in the 50 free, tying him for 58th place. He finished in 93rd in the 100 freestyle in 51.68 and placed tied for 105th in the 50 fly with a time of 26.74.
Burch still holds school records in the 50 free (20.26), the 100 free (45.08), the 100 backstroke (51.28), and was a member of the record-setting relay teams in the 200 medley (1:33.92), 400 medley relay (3:28.30), and 200 free relay (1:22.63).

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014.
