Clapp Named NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner Of The Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Sept. 22 - Springfield College senior
Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week, Monday, after winning the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 20).
Clapp, who was also voted the ECAC Division III New England Runner of the Week, had a winning time of 17:24 over the 5,000-meter course, won her third consecutive race in as many weeks. She also placed first at the Middlebury Invitational on Sept. 13 and the Amherst Invitational on Sept. 6.
A five-time All-American (two in cross coutnry, three in track & field) , this was the third year in a row she was victorious at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
Clapp has also been named the NEWMAC Runner of the Year for the last two seasons, and was named a Verizon First-Team Academic All-American last spring.

Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
