Williamstown, Mass. -- November 3, 2012 -- The Springfield College men's cross country team placed 17th of 43 teams at this afternoon's ECAC Division III Championships at Mount Greylock High School.
The men scored 542 team points.
Amherst placed first with 44 points, and were followed by Bates (54), Williams (84), Tufts (88), Middlebury (163), Sunyit (263), Colby (266), Merchant Marine Academy (285), Coast Guard (318), and Keene State (333).
The second 10 included University of New England (347), St. Joseph's (L.I.) (392), Southern Maine (402), RIC (413), Westfield State (442), Johnson & Wales (525), Springfield (542), Drew (557), Morrisville State (571), and Roger Williams (631).
Sophomore Mike Sherry (Loudonville, N.Y.) crossed the finish line first for the Pride in 82nd place with a time of 28:48.55. Behind Sherry was freshman Jacob Simons (Naugatuck, Conn.) in 86th with a time of 28:54.48.
In third for SC was sophomore Joe Geurds (Albany, N.Y.) in 110th place with a time of 29:18.78. In fourth was junior Corey Hamel (Methuen, Mass.) in 113th with a time of 29:27.55. And in fifth was senior Steven Gilfeather (Kingston, N.Y.) in 151st place with a time of 30:18.86.
Rounding out the SC competitors was sophomore Tyler Leahy (Chicopee, Mass.) in 158th place with a time of 30:29.60, and sophomore Scott Bushey (Hebron, Conn.) in 163rd place with a time of 30:38.14.
