Worcester, Mass. -- October 8, 2011 -- The Springfield College Field Hockey team defeated Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 1-0, this afternoon at WPI's Alumni Field. With the win, the Pride elevates its overall record to 2-9, and 2-2 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

Meanwhile, WPI is now 8-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference.

Senior forward Lynne Donoghue (Barnstable, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the game early on. She was assisted by sophomore forward Kelly Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) at 5:39 into the contest.

For SC, Grace Bibber, a freshman goalkeeper from Damariscotta, Me., was credited with three saves in the shutout. For WPI, Liz Dufresne was credited with eight saves in the net.

Up next, SC will host Plymouth State Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 5 pm.
