Springfield, Mass. - April 25, 2011 - Kelly Curtis was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week after guiding the Pride to a second-place finish at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday.A junior from Princeton, N.J., Curtis had a standout performance as she won the javelin with a toss of 115-03 while also leaping to a winning height of 5-04.25 in the high jump.
Curtis will look to continue her success this upcoming weekend at the NEWMAC Championships hosted at Coast Guard.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
