



Springfield, Mass. - February 1, 2010 - Junior middle blocker Cal Palumbo was selected as the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Conference Player of the Week after a pair of dominating performances over the last several days.The junior All-American has been simply unstoppable to start the season and it showed over the past two outings as the Pride racked up wins over Sacred Heart and fifth-ranked Rivier.
For the week, Palumbo tallied 21 kills on 24 swings, committing just one error for an impressive .833 hitting percentage. He was equally as impressive on defense, combining for 15 blocks in the two matches, en route to 4.29 points per set.
At Sacred Heart, the Rochester, N.Y. native totaled nine kills on 10 swings, hitting .800, to go along with six digs and seven blocks. On Saturday evening in the sweep of Rivier, he posted 12 kills on 14 errorless-swings and chipped in with eight blocks.
For the season, Palumbo is hitting a spectacular .588, averaging 2.81 kills and 1.24 blocks per game.
This marks the first time that Springfield has had a EIVA Tait Conference Player of the Week since Mark Ribeiro '09 was given the honor on March 2, 2009.

With seven national championships to his credit, Charlie Sullivan will enter his 15th season as head coach of the men's volleyball team in 2013. In 14 previous years at the helm, Sullivan owns an overall record of 224-155 for a .591 winning percentage. Read more.
