



Cambridge, Mass. – November 1, 2008 – Led by Amanda DiPaolo (Garrison, N.Y.), the Pride captured third place at the 2008 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Championship (NEWMAC) at Franklin Park. DiPaolo came across the line at 18:51 placing her in third, the top finish at NEWMAC's for a Springfield runner since Meghan Young took the crown in 2005.
Host MIT defended their 2007 crown scoring 27 points while Engineer junior Jacqui Wentz earned the top spot with a time of 18:28. Wheaton followed with 77 points, while the Pride scored 87, Smith (103), Wellesley (105), WPI (175), Coast Guard (180), Mt. Holyoke (197), Babson (275), then Clark (280).
Sophomore Lacey Cartier (York, Maine) finished in 13th in 19:20, joining DiPaolo on the All-NEWMAC First Team. Other Pride runners finishing in the top 50 include freshman Michelle Mirti (Pompton Plains, N.J.) in 20:06, followed by fellow freshman Caitlyn Crosby (Yarmouthport, Mass.) (20:19), senior Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) (20:27), freshman Alex Mustardo (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) (20:38), and freshman Lindsey Eby (Clifton Park, N.Y.) (20:55).
Springfield next competes at the ECAC Division III Championships on November 8 at Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Jim Pennington enters his 28th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2011-2012. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
