No. 17 Field Hockey Repels Babson, 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 27, 2003 – Springfield College junior midfielder
Jen Durgin (Gorham, Maine) scored with no time remaining in the game to lead the 17th-ranked Pride to a 2-1 win over Babson in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both schools this afternoon at Benedum Field.
Durgin’s goal, her second of the season, was scored off of a penalty corner after time had expired.
Senior forward
Brianne Tompkins (Stormville, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Pride with a goal off an assist from junior back
Kim Stevens (North Knox, Maine) with 17:38 remaining in the first half. The Beavers tied the match with 8:27 left in the game when junior forward
Katie Connon (Canton, Conn.) found the cage.
SC junior goalkeeper
Lindsay Pardue (Houston, Texas) made 10 saves.
The Pride improve to 5-3 (1-0 NEWMAC) while the Beavers taste defeat for the first time this season, falling to 7-1 (0-1 NEWMAC).
