SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 24, 2004 – Springfield College sophomore
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) won the 200 butterfly (1:58.58) but the Pride fell to visiting Williams College, 172-126, this afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The Pride fell to 5-3 in dual meet competition, while the Ephs improved to 4-1.
Moran placed second in the 1000 freestyle (10:01.61) behind Williams senior Chris Vollmond-Carstens (9:57.38). Springfield College sophomore All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) placed first in one and three-meter diving with nationally qualifying scores of 285.15 and 288.15, respectively. SC junior
Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.) won in the 500 freestyle (22.22), and joined junior
Tim Ryan (Hatboro, Pa.), freshman
Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.), junior
Blake Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y.) on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:39.30)
The Ephs had multiple winners, highlighted by Steve Spinelli, who placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.63) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.42). In addition to winning the 1000 freestyle, Vollmond-Carstens was also victorious in the 500 freestyle (4:57.76) and the 200 individual medley (2:00.89)
On the women’s side, Williams defeated the Pride, 172-126, ending SC’s four-meet winning streak. SC falls to 8-2, and the Ephs are 4-1.
SC junior All-American
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) won the 200 freestyle (1:58.94) and the 200 backstroke (2:11.95). Sophomore diver
Lacey Feduke (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) nationally qualified on the one-meter board with a first-place score of 246.34. SC sophomore
Sarah Strout (Edgecomb, Maine) was first in the 1000 freestyle (10:55.35).
Williams junior Jessica Yankura won the 100 backstroke (1:00.48) and the 100 freestyle (55>84). Sophomore Tricia Chambers placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:15.74) and the 200 breastroke (2:30.12). Senior Rachel Gealy was a winner on the three-meter board with a nationally qualifying score of 255.90.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
