Softball Tops Rutgers Camden and Transylvania In a Pair of One-Run Games

Kissimmee, Fla. - March 13, 2012 - The Springfield College softball team prevailed in a pair of one-run victories on Tuesday. Springfield shut down Rutgers Camden, 1-0, in its first contest before rallying with an inside the park grand slam in the seventh to down Transylvania, 5-4.

The two victories lifts Springfield's record to 4-1 this season.

In the first game, Jen Joseph was the story as she hurled a two-hitter to shut down Rutgers Camden. Joseph totaled five strikeouts and needed just one run of support to pick up the win. The lone rune of the contest game in the second inning as Kasey Kelly pounded an RBI double to plate Tess Gagliano, who got on base after earning a walk.

The second game proved to be a thrilling comeback for Springfield as it scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to scratch out a 5-4 win.

Eight different players recorded one hit in the game, while Ashley Marino tossed the final two innings in relief, giving up one hit with five strikeouts to earn the win.

The game ended in dramatic fashion after Kelly Blake drove in four runs thanks to an inside the park grand slam with one out on the seventh.
