Men's Track and Field Places Third of Five Teams at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Me., January 27, 2007 - Springfield College freshman Steve Headley (Wilbraham, Mass.) won two individual events, the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash with times of 6.56 and 23.13, respectively, to help the Pride finish third out of five competing teams at the Bowdoin Invitational this past Saturday in Brunswick, Maine.

The Pride finished with 118 total team points, good for third behind MIT (167.5) and Tufts (127.5). Host Bowdoin finished fourth with 75 points and Colby finished fifth with 35 total points.

SC sophomore Eric Nacsin (East Longmeadow, Mass) ran to a first-place finish in the 800-meter dash with an impressive time of 1:58.17. SC also had a pair of third-place finishers in the track events; junior Tim Rehm (Waldrick, N.J.) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.39, and sophomore Christopher Okerblom (Salisbury, Md.) in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:25.79.

To round out the Pride’s scoring in the track events, it had three fourth-place finishers. Sophomore Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Me.) finished fourth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:27.16, senior Dave Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.) finished fourth in the 600-meter race with a time of 1:26.30, and junior Jeff Bartlett (West Newbury, Mass.) finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:36.85.

In the field events, junior Dom Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass) came in first place in the weight throw (52', 10.75"), which qualified him for the All-Division New England meet. Another first-place finish came from Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass) in the shot put (49', 3.75").

Senior Dan Hall (Hingham, Mass.) and junior John Lewis (Fitchburg, Mass) finished third in the shot put (45', 10.75") and the weight throw (48', 10.25"), respectively. Junior Nick DeCelle (Mechanicville, N.Y.) finished third in the triple jump (44', 3.5"), while senior Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) finished third in the high jump (6', 3.5").

SC will next travel to Medford, Massachusetts, where they will compete in the Tufts Invitational on Saturday afternoon, February 3rd.
