SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Dec. 14, 2005 - Springfield College senior All-Americans Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) have been honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the Division III Men’s Swimmer and Divers of the Week, in an announcement made on Wednesday afternoon, December 14.
In the Pride’s latest performance, a 156-139 dual meet at Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon, December 10, Moran and Shaw combined to break a total of four records on the day.
Moran, a graduate of Wilbraham & Monson, shattered two 28-year old records at Springfield College in the Middlebury meet. In the 1,650-freestyle event, Moran finished first with a time of 16:17.88, breaking former Pride standout Mike McCombs’s record set back in 1977 of 16:20.43. In that 1,650 event, Moran also broke McCombs’s 1,000 SC record of 9:48.50, as the senior finished the 1,000 in 9:46.65.
Shaw, a Westfield High School alum, broke his own SC record in the one-meter dive at Middlebury, totaling a score of 324.98. On the three-meter board, Shaw broke Middlebury’s pool record with a 316.28-point total.
The SC men’s swimming and diving team has compiled a 3-2 dual meet record to date and will next compete in a tri-meet at Union College on Saturday, January 7 with Hartwick College in a 1:00 p.m. start.
