Schenectady, N.Y. -- January 7, 2012 -- Kellie Pennington and Jennifer Thompson led the Springfield College women's swimming & diving team to a pair of victories today over Union College and Hartwick College in a tri-meet at Union College.
Scores had the Springfield women defeating Union, 147-93, and defeating Hartwick, 155-86.
Pennington, a sophomore from Monson, Mass., had a terrific day. She won both the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.23. She also won the 100-yard free with a time of 54.30.
Pennington was also a part of two winning relays. She teamed with sophomore Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), sophomore Nicolle Stracqualursi (Dedham, Mass.), and senior Kaitlin Reilly (Cumberland, R.I.) to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:13.13. She also teamed with Reilly, senior Jaclyn Van Waalwijk (Newtown, Conn.), and senior Caroline Kosciusko (West Cornwall, Conn.) in the 400-yard free relay in 3:45.35.
Meanwhile, in the diving portion of the meet, in the 1-meter, Thompson, a sophomore from Cheshire, Conn., helped her squad finish 1-2-3 with a win with 255.80 points. Right behind her were senior Courtney Keefe (Waltham, Mass.) in second, and junior Paige Rhodes (Milton, N.Y.) in third.
In the 3-meter, again it was Thompson placing first with 275.65 points, followed by sophomore Kyra Breitweiser (Westwood, N.J.) and Keefe.
Pulling tough double-duty was SC senior Meghan Sisson (Plainville, Conn.) with a pair of second-place finishes in the 1000-free in 10:59.46, and in the 500-free in 5:26.47.
Next Saturday (Jan. 14), the Pride will travel to NYU to take on the Violets at 12 noon.
