SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 22, 2002 - Springfield College senior Danica Ansardy has been selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week in women's lacrosse.

Ansardy, a senior attack player from Woodstock, Vt., scored 16 goals and added one assist to help the Pride go undefeated last week (3-0). She helped SC clinch its first NEWMAC title (and became SC's all-time leading goal scorer with 136) when she scored seven goals in the Pride's 12-11 victory over Wellesley (April 20). Ansardy tallied another three goals in a 10-8 win at Mount Holyoke (April 16) and added six goals and an assist in a 15-6 victory at West. Conn. State (April 18). Defensively, she contributed seven ground balls and four caused turnovers last week.

Ansardy is SC's leading scorer with 50 points (45 goals and five assists), and is one of the NEWMAC leaders with an average of 3.85 points (3.46 goals) per game.

Top-seed Springfield College (9-4, 6-0 NEWMAC) will host this weekend's conference tournament at Benedum Field. The Pride, which has won seven consecutive games, receives a bye into Saturday's semifinal. The winner of the NEWMAC Tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
