



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 2, 2007) – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference has announced its All-NEWMAC choices in a number of spring sports over the course of the past two days. Springfield College was well represented, especially in the Rookie of the Year category where three SC freshmen were named.
The following is a summary, sport-by-sport.
BASEBALL
First Team All-NEWMAC – Jimmy Lisowski, sophomore pitcher from Warwick, Mass. -- Lisowski finished with a 3-5 overall record, but with a sparkling ERA of 2.05. In his eight appearances, he pitched five complete games, including a 1-0 four-hit shutout over MIT. He hurled 52.2 innings, striking out 54 and walking only 13.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
First Team All-NEWMAC – Ashley Martell, senior, attacker, Billerica, Mass. -- Martell led the team in goals (44), assists(28), and points (72), as well as shooting percentage (,463). A NEWMAC Player of the Year candidate. The team reached the semifinals of the NEWMAC Tourney before bowing to Babson, 11-9.
First Team All-NEWMAC – Jaclyn Alessi, senior, defender, Branford, Conn. -- Alessi was considered one of the top defenders. In fact, she was the only defender named to the All-NEWMAC First Team.
Second Team All-NEWMAC – Rachel Lampros, senior, attacker, Boxborough, Mass. – Lampros was second on the squad in two scoring categories, including goals (29) and points (40). She was third in assists with 11.
Second Team All-NEWMAC – Lauren McAulay, freshman, GK, Yorktown, N.Y. – McAulay was one of only two goalkeepers named to the All-NEWMAC teams. She allowed only 8.83 goals per game. Her save percentage was .529. She played 835 minutes, 42 seconds on the season.
Second Team All-NEWMAC – Lisa Thomas, senior, midfielder, Whitman, Mass. – Thomas was third on the squad in goals (25), fourth I assists (10), and third in points (35). She had two game-winning goals. The team finished 10-8.
SOFTBALL
Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NEWMAC – Michelle Wlosek, freshman catcher from Nutley, N.J. – A tremendous leader as a freshman, Wlosek led Springfield in many categories, including batting average (.407), hits (50), home runs (9), RBI’s (44), total bases (86), on-base pct. (.490), and slugging pct. (.699).
First Team All-NEWMAC – Denise Fumicello, junior 2B from Brockton, Mass. – The sparkplug and leadoff hitter, Fumicello batted .344 and led SC in a variety of categories, including at-bats (131), runs (46), stolen bases (17), and triples (4).
Second Team All-NEWMAC – Danielle Spiro, sophomore DP/OF from South Windsor, Conn. – Spiro batted .394, second-best on the squad. Her 41 hits were third best on the team. She led the team in doubles (10). The team is currently 25-14.
MEN’S TENNIS
Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-NEWMAC -- Trevor Romanzi, freshman, Bayshore, N.Y. – Romanzi is Springfield’s second straight NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in men’s tennis. The team finished 8-7. He finished 10-2 overall, 5-0 in NEWMAC play as the team’s No. 5 singles starter.
