Women's Volleyball To Square off With Baruch in Opening Round of NCAA Championship

Springfield College Women's Volleyball Complete Bracket

Springfield, Mass. - November 11, 2013 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team is headed to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship for the fourth consecutive year and will play Baruch College in the opening round on Friday.

The Pride will take on Baruch in the opening round of the tournament, which will be hosted at Williams College. Baruch (19-16) earned an automatic bid into the national tournament after it claimed its third-straight consecutive CUNYAC Championship on Friday in a five-set win over Hunter. This will mark the first ever meeting between these two schools.

The winner of this match will take on the winner of the contest between host Williams (25-4) and Southern Vermont (12-8).

In her third season at the helm of the Pride, head coach Moira Long has led the Pride to a 25-5 record this season. On Sunday, Springfield captured the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship in a thrilling five-set win over Wellesley in Blake Arena to claim a spot in the national tournament for the fifth time in the last six years. In her first two years with Springfield, Long has guided the Pride to both the NCAA Elite Eight in 2011 and the NCAA Regional Semifinals in 2012.

The remainder of the regional is as follows: UMass Boston (21-15) will play Wellesley (28-6) and Roger Williams (30-3) will take on St. Joseph's of Long Island (21-12) on Friday.

Fans can pick between two ticket packages. The all-session pass for Friday is $12 for adults, $10 for students and $7 for students under 12. Children under 2 and accompanied by a paying adult will be allowed in free. A single session ticket will cost $6 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for children under 12.

Of the eight teams in the regional, Springfield has played three of them this season. The Pride previously defeated Williams in five sets at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Oct. 25 and recently defeated Wellesley twice in a pair of five-game thrillers on Nov. 2 and Nov. 9. Springfield and Roger Williams square off on Oct. 11, with the Hawks prevailing in five sets.

The two Saturday matches between the Friday winners will start at 2:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday's regional final is slated to begin at 3 p.m. The regional winner advances to the national quarterfinals at the Hope College in Holland, Michigan Nov. 22-24.
