Wrestling Falls to No. 3 in the NEWA Poll

Ryan McGilvray Bristol, R.I. -- January 24, 2011 -- The Springfield College wrestling team has been ranked No. 3 in the very latest New England Wrestling Association poll. This poll is based exclusively on the team order of finish in the NEWA Duals Tournament which was completed yesterday at Bridgewater State.

Every year, this particular poll is determined by how the teams completed their order at the Team Duals. So, the rankings are no mystery. There are no point totals per normal.

The top ten teams include Wesleyan (9-2-1), Plymouth State (6-1), Springfield (6-4), Williams (6-5-1), Rhode Island College (7-5), Bridgewater State University (6-8-1), Johnson & Wales University (11-6-1), Coast Guard (1-11), Roger Williams University (5-8), and Trinity College (2-4).

Wesleyan captured its first-ever NEWA Duals title with a 24-12 win over Plymouth State. Springfield defeated Williams College yesterday, 21-19, to finish third. Plymouth State had upset Springfield in the third round, 24-16, to reach the finals.

Next Saturday (Jan. 29), Springfield hosts the new No. 1 team, Wesleyan, along with #5 RIC and Norwich, which finished 12th in the NEWA duals.
