Clapp Finishes Second at James Earley Invitational
WESTFIELD, Mass., Oct. 19, 2002 – Springfield College junior
Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) ran to a second-place finish to lead the Pride to sixth place out of 26 teams at the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State College.
Clapp finished the six-kilometer course in a time of 21:57. SC freshman
Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) and sophomore
Jenn Saucier (Derry, N.H.) also finished in the top 50.
On the men’s side, Springfield College sophomore
Steve Wilson (W. Hartford, Conn.) placed 57th to lead the Pride to a 14th place finish out of 27 teams.
Wilson finished the course in a time of 27:28. SC junior
Brian Pearsall (Fairport, N.Y.) finished 79th with senior teammate
Mike Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) right behind him in 80th place.

Jim Pennington enters his 28th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2011-2012. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
