Men's Track & Field Competes At New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass, - March 1, 2003 - Springfield College sophomore Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) finished sixth in the shot put with a 50 foot, 7 1/4 inch effort to lead the Pride to 24th place out of 41 Division I, II and III teams at the New England Championship, Saturday, at Boston University.

Senior Ethan Brown (Somers, Conn.) lept to eighth place in the high jump with a 6 foot, 3 1/4 inch performance.

Senior Bob Mateicka (Metuchen, N.J.), sophomore Steve Wilson (West Hartford, Conn.), junior Brian Pearsall (Fairport, N.Y.) and senior Mike Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) set a school record in the 4x800-meter relay, finishing eighth in 7:48.06.

Senior Adam Hughes (Bridgewater, Conn.), junior Art Fredericks (Wallingford, Conn.), senior Jon Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) and freshman Sean Kupiec teamed to finish ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best 3:21.57 time.

He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage.
