Thulin Clinches Women's Tennis' 5-4 Win Over Puerto Rico Rio Piedras

San Juan, Puerto Rico - March 20, 2013 - Melanie Thulin prevailed at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the victory as the Springfield College women's tennis team defeated Puerto Rico Rio Piedras, 5-4 on Wednesday.

The Pride evened it record to 6-6 on the year with the win and will compete again on Thursday when it takes on Goucher.

Rio Piedras won two of the three doubles points, with the Pride earning a win at No. 3 double by forfeit.

In the singles competition, Springfield once again benefited from a forfeit at No. 6 singles.

Sam Carney picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Ariana Shemms cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Thulin then clinched the match for the Pride with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4.
