SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 26, 2004 - Springfield College junior forward
Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) scored two goals to lead the No. 11 Pride to a 3-0 win over WPI in field hockey action this evening in SC’s final regular-season match. The win gives Springfield its first undefeated New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) record since 1998, and the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament that starts Saturday (Oct. 30) at 1:00 p.m. versus visiting Smith College.
Brooker put the Pride (16-3, 8-0 NEWMAC) on the board with an unassisted tally at the 20:14 mark of the first half, before junior forward
Amber Paradee (Sheldon, Vt.) gave SC a 2-0 cushion 1 minute and 44 seconds later as Springfield took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Brooker’s second goal came with 17:13 remaining in the game, off an assist from senior forward
Lydia Grant (Granby, Conn.), as the Pride finished the regular season with an unblemished 10-0 record at home this fall.
WPI goalie Missy Kahan made 18 stops for the Engineers, which finish the season with a 3-14 mark, including an 0-8 record in the NEWMAC.
