



Springfield, Mass. - April 25, 2011 - After leading the Springfield College men's track and field team to a second-place showing at the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday, Nickel Hay and Ryan Ux were honored by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Hay earned NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Ux garnered NEWMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades.A senior from Norwalk, Conn. Hay won the 100 meter dash (11.05), placed second in the 200 (22.41) while also running on the winning 4x100 relay team that crossed in 43.31.
A sophomore from Nashua, N.H., Ux continued to excel in the javelin for head coach Ken Klatka. On Saturday, Ux placed second in the javelin with a toss of 190-04.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
