New York, N.Y. --March 5, 2011 -- The Springfield College women's track and field team finished tied for 15th of 47 scoring teams after two days of competition at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory in New York City.
The top 20 team scores included TCNJ (58 pts.), Tufts (53.50), Buffalo State (50), Ramapo (48.50), MIT (46), Ithaca (41.50), Amherst (40), Middlebury (35), Williams (33), Rochester (30), Rowan (25), Wheaton (Mass.) (22.50), Moravian (21), Cortland (21), Springfield (20), Bowdoin (20), Southern Maine (19), Colby (18), NYU (18), and Wellesley (16).
SC entered Day 2 with six points. SC's 4x200 meter relay team had placed third for all six of those points.
On Day 2, SC freshman Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) placed 12th in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Jenn Kapinos (Agawam, Mass.) placed fifth in the 500-meter dash in 1:18.74, scoring four more points for her team.
In the 1000-meter run, junior Michelle Mirti (Pompton Plains, N.J.) placed 22nd with a time of 3:06.04. In the mile, senior Lacey Cartier (York, Me.) finished 12th in 5:07.85.
In the 4x800 meter relay, SC had its best finish of the day by placing second in 9:33.90. The foursome included Kapinos, Cartier, sophomore Nicole DeChristoforo (No. Kingston, R.I.), and Mirti.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Pride took seventh in 3:58.53. That quartet included senior Kathryn Schumann (Cromwell, Conn.), senior Joy Jennifer (Columbia, Md.), sophomore Laurie Jenkins (Columbia, Conn.), and Gaudreault.
