Women's Track & Field Finishes Fifth in Springfield Meet

Springfield, Mass. -- January 22, 2011 -- MIT finished first in an indoor track & field meet at the Springfield College Field House this afternoon and extending into the evening. The Engineers placed first, ahead of Tufts, Ramapo, Wheaton, Springfield, Westfield State, UMass Dartmouth, Coast Guard, and Smith College.

MIT scored 206.5 points, and was followed in order by Tufts (139.5), Ramapo (99.5), Wheaton (96), Springfield (75), Westfield State (36), UMass Dartmouth (31), Coast Guard (25.5), and Smith (26).

There were many contributors for Springfield College.

In the 55-meter dash, Crystal Davis placed sixth in 7.63 seconds. In the 200-meters, Laurie Jenkins took second at 26.72, while Davis was sixth at 27.57. In the 400-meters, Gabriella Gaudreault was fourth with a time of 1:01.88, while Joy Jennifer was ninth in the same event at 1:03.20.

In the 600, Jenn Kapinos finished fourth in 1:44.21. In the 800, Lacey Cartier placed fifth in 2:32.04. In the 1000, it was Michelle Mirti taking a sixth in 3:19.83. Close behind were Nicole DeChristoforo in eighth at 3:23.73, and Alex Mustardo in ninth at 3:28.18.

In the mile run, Cartier placed second with a time of 5:19.79. Katie Burns was ninth in 5:51.06. In the 5000, Molly Powell was sixth in 20:05.36. In the 55-meter hurdles, Kelly Curtis was fifth in 8.99 seconds.

In the 4x200-meter relay, the quartet of Gaudreault, Davis, Erica Marks, and Jenkins finished second in 1:48.16. In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Jennifer, Gaudreault, Kathryn Schumann, and Kapinos placed fifth in 4:13.11. In the other relay, the 4x800, Springfield placed fourth with the team of Ali Dalton, DeChristoforo, Kapinos, and Gabrielle Williams in 10:41.59.

In field events, we'll lead off with the high jump and Curtis's fifth-place finish at 4-11 3/4. In the pole vault, Rhian Duggan was seventh at 10-feet even. In the long jump, Curtis had another fifth at 16-5 1/4.

In the shot put, Amber Judge placed ninth at 35-1 3/4. And finally, in the weight throw, Colleen Brague placed eighth at 40-3 1/2.

Next Saturday, the Pride will travel for a meet at Southern Maine.
