Springfield College Selected For Jostens/NADIIIAA Community Service Award

Springfield College Selected For Jostens/NADIIIAA Community Service Award Springfield, Mass. - January 24, 2014 - For the ninth time in the last 10 years, Springfield College has been selected to receive a highly-coveted Jostens/NADIIIAA Community Service Award for projects completed during the 2012-13 academic year. The award was officially presented at the NCAA Convention in San Diego earlier this month.

The prestigious awards program is co-sponsored by the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators and by Jostens, and is intended to recognize the many contributions that Division III student-athletes make to their communities. The purpose is to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

The College was presented the Jostens/NADIIIAA honorable mention Award of Merit in the Array of Projects/Activities division. Just 16 colleges and universities nationally were honored.

Last year proved to be one filled with a variety of different ventures in which Springfield College student-athletes gave back to their community. In addition to the 15th annual Springfield College Humanics in Action Day, where more than 700 student-athletes completed service projects around the city of Springfield, student-athletes participated in cancer awareness events, an AIDS 5K, tutoring in local elementary schools, working with Special Olympics and Team IMPACT, as well as hosting a National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

"We are very honored and appreciative of receiving such an outstanding award," said Dr. Cathie Schweitzer, Springfield College's Director of Athletics. "It was very humbling to receive the award of behalf of our students. The mission of Springfield College is to 'educate students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to humanity by building upon a foundation of Humanics and academic excellence.' Community service is a large part of this mission. It helps to prepare our students for a life of helping others."

The NADIIAA is an association comprised of athletics administrators from the 437 institutions and 40 conferences competing at the NCAA Division III level. Minneapolis-based Jostens is a leading provider of products, programs, and services that help people celebrate important moments, recognize achievements, and build affiliations.
