



Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. - April 11, 2009 - Despite outstanding individual performances by Steve Headley and Nickel Hay, the Springfield College men's track and field team finished second at a tri-meet on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Coast Guard finished with 142 and just edged the host Pride, who tallied 141 points in the meet. WPI rounded out the competition with 97 points.
Headley cruised to victory in the 100 in 10.63 and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200 meters after crossing the finish line in 22.04. Hay, who finished second behind Headley in the 200 with a time of 22.25, finished first in the 400 with a time of 50.46.
Teammate Mike Griffin claimed first in the 800 with a time of 1:59.36, and crossed second in the 1500 in 4:05.17.
Springfield ran away in both relays as the team of Matt Amendola, Tom Brognano, Hay, and Headley won the 4x100 in 42.29, while Brognano, Kevin Behlmer, Chris Quetant, and Hay teammed up in the 4x400 for a win in 3:22.41.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
