



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 9, 2005- The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the 2005 Women’s Soccer Academic All-Conference Team, as eight Springfield College athletes have received honors this season.
Academic All-Conference Team members must have a cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale after the 2005 spring semester. They also must have achieved second year academic status at his/her institution and have been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The following are Springfield College Women’s Soccer honorees and their GPA’s:
Michelle Bongiovonni- 3.87; Junior, Midfielder- West Springfield, Mass.
Sarah Killeen- 3.69; Senior, Midfielder- Meriden, Conn.
Elisabeth Macrum- 3.88; Senior, Defender- Acton, Maine
Margaret Mertzic- 3.52; Junior, Midfielder- Barre, Mass.
Megan Perry- 3.88; Senior, Defender- Chatham, N.Y.
Cara Reilly- 3.71; Junior, Midfielder- Lenoxdale, Mass.
Christine Turbitt- 3.52; Sophomore, Forward- East Providence, R.I.
Hallie Vail- 3.56; Junior, Midfielder- Cumberland, Maine
The other NEWMAC women’s soccer institutions include Babson College, Clark University, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 13th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2012. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last seven years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 152-70-19 record.
