Complete ResultsWilliamstown, Mass. - September 24, 2011 - The Springfield College women’s cross country team competed in the Purple Valley Classic Saturday afternoon at Williams College, placing 12th out of 16 teams.
Middlebury won the team event with 45 points. The hosts placed a close second with 56 points. Plattsburgh State (116 points), Amherst College (118), and New York University (135) rounded out the top five.
Michelle Mirti was the top finisher for the Pride, placing 92nd overall with a time of 25:28 on the 6K course, while freshman newcomer Nora Letendre was next for Springfield in 25:40, good for 99th overall.
Gabriella Williams clocked in at 26:23, good for 126th place, Erica Fisher finished in 26:57 for 137th, while Nicole DeCristoforo ran a time of 27:19 to place 142nd. Katie Burns rounded out the Pride's effort as she recorded a time of 27:23 to place 145th overall.
The Pride will head to Keene, N.H. next Saturday for the Keene State Invitational.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
