



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 7, 2005 - Springfield College freshman Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) won at #1 singles in three sets in her first career collegiate match (5-7, 6-4, 6-3), but it was Western New England College who spoiled the Pride's season-opening contest, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon, September 7th.
SC junior Meghan Kelly (Queensbury, N.Y.) won her #2 singles match in straight-sets (6-4, 6-1), and the Pride's #1 doubles team of Weinstein and Kelly picked up an 8-6 victory over the Golden Bears' Meredith Hughes and Kristen Villany.
Springfield will open up its home season this weekend, as they take on New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)-foe, Wellesley College, in a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday, September 10th.
Singles:
Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
