Springfield, Mass. -- February 10, 2012 -- Ty Evans of Springfield College has been selected this week's NCAA Collegiate Division National Men's Gymnast of the Week. The award is sponsored by the College Gymnastics Association.Ty Evans is a senior from San Jose, Calif.
Evans competed last week with the USA Gymnastics elite in the Winter Cup at the Las Vegas Sports Center. He and 41 others were attempting to make the U.S. National Team.
Overall, he competed in the all-around and placed 27th with a two-day score of 155.450.
In the vault, Ty finished ninth. In the prelims on Thursday (Feb. 2), he posted a score of 15.600. Two days later in the finals (Feb. 4), his score was a 15.750.
"Ty Evans certainly did us all proud," said his head coach, Steve Posner. "It shows you what kind of an athlete he is."
Entering his 32nd season as head men's gymnastics coach, Dr. Steve Posner is recognized as one of the most outstanding gymnastics coaches in the East. Posner led the Pride to another successful season in 2013 as he led five gymnasts to the NCAA Championships. Read more.
