Consol Named NEWMAC and ECAC New England Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

Mary Consol Wellesley, Mass. - September 24, 2012 - Springfield College senior Mary Consol was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and ECAC New England Women's Volleyball Player of the Week after guiding the Pride to a 5-0 record last week.

A native of Long Branch, N.J., Consol had an outstanding week in the middle, leading the Pride three wins over teams ranked in the top 10 in New England. She recorded 54 kills at a .356 clip to go along with 21 blocks, averaging 1.17 per set. In addition, she was named to the All-Tournament Team at the MIT Invitational.

Consol started off the week with a nine-kill, four-block performance in a four-set win over conference-foe MIT on Tuesday. She then kicked off the MIT Invitational on Friday by posting nine kills and two blocks as the Pride toppled Bowdoin, the top-ranked team in the region, in four sets. Consol later tallied 10 kills and five blocks versus Endicott that evening.

On Saturday, Consol posted 11 kills at a .476 clip to go along with three blocks in a four-set win against Tufts. She closed out her week in dominating fashion, registering 15 kills on 22 errorless attempts with seven blocks in a sweep of Bates.
