Young Captures Fifth Place At Husky Winter Carnival
BOSTON , Mass. Dec. 7, 2002 – Springfield College junior
Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished first in the long jump and grad student
Bob Mateicka (Metuchen, N.J.) took first place in the 1,000-meter run at the Husky Winter Carnival at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Jaroszewicz won the long jump leaping 6.77 meters while Mateicka finished first in the 1,000- meter run with a time of 2:33.06 in a meet for all Division I, II and III athletes as well as open competitors.
Other member of the Pride track and field team had a strong showing as senior
Ethan Brown (Somers, Conn.) tied for second in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), senior
Jon Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) finished fourth in the 500-meter run (1:07.22) and freshman
Bill King (Wilmington, Mass.) tied for fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.83).
On the women’s side, freshman
Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run (11:00.37) while freshman
Jen Saucier (Derry, N.H.) finished sixth (11:03.54).

Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
