SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 20, 2007) – Despite outshooting the visiting MIT Engineers, 20-9, the Springfield College men's soccer team finished with a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at the Brock-Affleck Field within the Irv Schmid Sports Complex in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference action.
With the tie, the Pride now stands at 7-7-2, 3-2-1 in league play, while MIT stands at 7-4-2, 1-2-2.
The Engineers jumped on the board first when Neil Zimmerman finished a feed from Jason Zhu just 13:41 into the contest. However, the Pride would knot the game at one goal apiece when Chad Bonnell (Hazlet, N.J.) found the back of the net at the 40-minute mark. Springfield outshot the Engineers 7-3 in the first stanza.
Neither team could muster a goal in the second half nor either overtime session as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The Pride held a 5-0 shot advantage in overtime sessions but was unable to convert on its chances.
B.J. Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) finished with four saves in goal, while Tom Caldwell made six stops for MIT.
Springfield returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in its regular-season finale when it hosts Western Connecticut in non-conference action. Kick-off is slated 7:00 p.m.
