Men's Cross Country Runs To 13th-Place Finish at UMass Dartmouth Invitational
North Dartmouth, Mass. - September 21, 2013
- The Springfield College men's cross country team finished 13th of 28 teams competing in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Jacob Simons (Naugatuck, Conn.)
ran a team-best 27:44 to finish 57th.
Franklin Pierce totaled 52 points to win the Invitational, followed closely by Keene State's total of 66 points. Wilmington (77), Rowan (87), and Assumption (150) rounded out the top five.
Simons ran the 8k course with an average mile time of 5:35 to pace the Pride. Teammate Erich Voelker (Albany, N.Y.) was the next fastest runner for Springfield, crossing in 71st in 28:15.
Just six spots behind Voelker was Scott Bushey (Hebron, Conn.), who ran a 28:21, while Brishen Dearborn (Wethersfield, Conn.) posted a 28:26 to take 81st. Corey Hamel (Methuen, Mass.) was the Pride's final runner, totaling a 28:30, good enough for 84th.
The Pride will run at the Purple Valley Classic next Saturday in Williamstown, Mass.
Head Coach Bryan Brown
Bryan Brown will enter his third season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2013. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, is the reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year after leading Springfield to its second-straight second-place finish at the conference championships a year ago .
