Springfield, Mass. -- April 14, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's golf team finished tied for eighth of 12 teams at the Western New England Invitational at nearby Veterans Memorial Golf Course. Craig DiFranco of East Longmeadow, Mass. finished in a tie for 11th among individuals with a 78.Western New England fired a 307 to take team honors.
UMass Dartmouth sophomore Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, Mass.) was the medalist with a 73, which included an eagle on the par 5, 474-yard (over water) third hole.
Salem State was a stroke behind to finish second (308) with Nichols (314), UMass Dartmouth (319), and Elms (321) rounding out the top five.
Tufts came in sixth (323) followed by Massachusetts College (327), Babson (331), Springfield (331), Westfield State (335), Endicott (340), and Wesleyan (344).
