Wheaton Upsets No. 18 Field Hockey, 2-1, In 2 OT
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Oct. 12, 2002 – Springfield College sophomore goalie
Lindsey Pardue (Houston, Texas, Episcopal) made eight saves but Wheaton College escaped with a 2-1 win in double overtime in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey contest at Benedum Field.
Wheaton sophomore Lynn Holmgreen (East Sandwich, Mass.) scored the game winner with 2:15 remaining in the second OT. Nicole Marchetto (Amherst, Mass.) scored to give the Lyons a 1-0 lead 58:33 in the game. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Fiskio (Branford, Conn.) stopped 18 shots in the win.
Springfield College freshman
Lisa Fruggiero (East Dennis, Mass.) scored the Pride’s lone goal with 62:55 remaining in the contest. The Pride outshot the Lyons, 24-18.
