



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- April 5, 2008 -- Mike Miller claimed four firsts and two thirds in leading the Springfield College men's track & field team to victory in a quadrangular meet at Middlebury College this past Saturday.
As a team, Springfield scored 283.50 points, followed by Bowdoin (203.50), Middlebury (93), and Colby-Sawyer (72).
Ken Klatka's clan had a great day overall, as the team took 12 first-place finishes.
Miller, a senior from Storrs, Conn., finished first in the following four events -- 110 hurdles (16.48), high jump (6-5), pole vault (13-7 1/4), and long jump (20-10 1/2). He also took a pair of thirds in the shot put (40-11) and the javelin (157-5). Overall, he scored 48 of the Pride's 283.50 points.

Another who had an excellent day was senior weight man Dominick Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.). The All-American finished first in two events -- the shot put (47-10 1/2) and the hammer (176-3). Last year, Uguccioni finished 6th nationally at the NCAA Division III Championships in his specialty, the hammer.
Sophomore sprinter Steve Headley (Wilbraham, Mass.) had two firsts in the 100-meter dash (10.87) and the 200-meter dash (22.15). This past winter, he finished 5th nationally in the 55-meter dash at the NCAA Division III nationals in Ada, Ohio.
Freshman Kevin Behlmer (Attleboro, Mass.) captured first in the 400 hurdles (54.48). Junior Justin Ludwig (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) was first in the steeplechase, (10:16.83), making a 20-second improvement. Senior Tim Rehm (Waldwick, N.J.) finished first in the 400 (50.37), and added a third in the 200 (22.94). Senior Jeff Bartlett (West Newbury, Mass.) placed first in the 1500 (4:06.86) and third in the 800 (2:03.04).
There were others who had seconds and thirds. Freshman Nickel Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) took a second in the 200 (22.67). Freshman Emil Occhiboi (Brookfield, Conn.) took a second in the high jump (6-0). Freshman Alex Fallon (Tolland, Conn.) captured a second in the javelin (159-10).
Junior Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) placed second in the 800 (2:01.01) and third in the 1500 (4:09.37). Jeff Bruno took a third in the 100 (11.46). Freshman Michael Cataldo (Deer Park, N.Y.) finished third in the discus (114-11). Freshman John Koziatek (East Lyme, Conn.) placed third in the pole vault (11-7 3/4). And finally, freshman Chris Quetant (Milford, Conn.) took two thirds in the 400 (51.20) and the high jump (5-10).
Springfield will next travel to WPI in Worcester this Friday (please note the date change; it had been Saturday) to take on the Engineers and the Coast Guard Bears at 12 noon.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
