SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 18, 2005 –Salve Regina sophomore Louise Taylor and junior Kristina Kennedy both won their singles matches as the Seahawks defeated Springfield College, 8-1, this afternoon (Sep. 18) at Appleton Courts on the campus of Springfield College.
Taylor won her #1 singles match in three sets by the score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Kennedy won her #3 singles match in two sets by a score of 7-6 (11-9), 6-4. Kristina also paired up with her sister Michelle Kennedy at #1 doubles, winning 9-8 (7-5). Salve Regina improves its record to 4-0.
For Springfield, both Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) and Meghan Kelly (Queensbury, N.Y.) had strong days, battling to a tiebreak when paired together for doubles, and fighting into three-setters in their respective singles matches. Kelly had the sole victory for the Pride today in a solid comeback, winning 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) over Salve's Michelle Kennedy.
SC is now 1-4 overall on the season and will next travel to Clark University for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Tuesday afternoon, September 20th, at 4:00 p.m.Doubles:
