Knoxville, Tenn. - March 24, 2011 - Senior Brian Sobel continued to excel on the national level as he placed third on the one-meter board at the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening.
For his efforts, the Stratford, Conn. native once again earned All-America honors. Despite being the last qualifier for the championship final after totaling 399.75 points in the prelims, Sobel came to life in the evening session. The senior totaled 448.35 points as he finished strong to take third place out of 22 divers.
For Sobel, this was his third consecutive appearance in the national event. At last year's NCAA Championships, Sobel was the national runner-up on the one-meter and finished seventh on the three-meter board to earn a pair of All-American honors.
Classmate Brooks Farrar, who earned NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Year this season, competed in the consolation finals after scoring 386.70 points in the prelims. In the evening session, Farrar totaled 392.95 points as he placed 13th and took home Honorable Mention All-America honors.
In his first trip to nationals, Kenny Pancoast totaled 363.15 points but was unable to qualify for the finals.
