Sports Journalism Students Chosen to Broadcast NEWMAC Lacrosse Championships

NEWMAC Lacrosse Boston, Mass. - April 25, 2014 - This spring, for the first time, the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will broadcast its men’s and women’s lacrosse championship games live via online streaming video. The broadcasts, which will be presented in conjunction with the Springfield College Department of Communications and Sports Journalism, will be available free of charge to all NEWMAC lacrosse fans.

Both championship games will be fully staffed and produced by students in the Springfield Communications and Sports Journalism program and will feature play-by-play and color commentary, multiple camera angles, and enhanced graphics throughout the broadcast. Stretch Internet will provide the live stream of the broadcasts.

“The NEWMAC is excited to offer our NEWMAC Championships via a live streamed and fully produced broadcast,” NEWMAC Executive Director Patrick Summers said. “Any opportunity to highlight our student-athletes and our member institutions is one that we will embrace. I would like to thank the Springfield College Department of Communications and Sports Journalism, specifically Chief Information Officer, Danny Davis, and Digital Media Coordinator, Ray Laferriere, for working with us to produce the men’s and women’s lacrosse championship games. We hope that we can extend this opportunity to more championship events in the future."

The women’s title game will be held this Sunday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. while the men’s championship will take place next Saturday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m. The live streams can be accessed through www.newmacsports.com or at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/newmac.portal. Both games will also be available On Demand following the live broadcast.

"We are appreciative of the support provided by Springfield College and their staff and students in the Communications and Sports Journalism department and Stretch Internet to enable the NEWMAC to engage in a live broadcast of our lacrosse championships for men and women,” said NEWMAC President and Wellesley College Athletic Director, Bridget Belgiovine. “We are thrilled to showcase the talents of our athletes and coaches of the NEWMAC lacrosse programs to a broader audience."
