Men's Gymnastics Finishes Fourth at USAG Championships

Williamsburg, Va.- March 29, 2013 - The Springfield College men’s gymnastics team competed in the opening night of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship at Kaplan Arena on Friday evening.

Air Force claimed the Varsity Division team title with a 420.85 and was followed by William & Mary (419.1), Navy (404.6) and Springfield (401.85). Arizona State won the Collegiate Division team title with a 407.55 and was followed by Washington (358.8) and Brockport (320.55).

Friday night's competition did determine the USAG All-Around competition, and Jon Zirna had the sixth-highest score of 80.200, which was the fourth-highest tally among Varsity competitors.

Those who finished in the top eight of their event earned on Friday the right to compete in Saturday night's individual championships. Jimmy Pezzino registered the second highest-score of the evening on the floor exercise with a 14.300, while teammate Chris Jost also tied for fourth in the event after totaling a 14.000.

Jon Zirna continued to excel on the pommel horse, scoring a 14.350 to take second in the event. Ryan Ponce recorded a 14.600 on the rings to take fourth, and Jost later tied for sixth on the vault with a 14.400.

On the parallel bars, Kevin Miner was the Pride's top scorer, finishing sixth with a 14.000.
